Better Than Spocks Brain, But That is A Low Target
DKosty12322 December 2009
Gene L Coon who wrote some other episodes of West & several episodes of Star Trek (including Spock's Brain ugh) in the 1960's wrote the script for this one. It is actually a pretty decent outing.

Keenan Wynne is a corrupt former Army officer who is intent on taking over Baja, California and the entire south west. This is a pretty common plot during the first season of West, even Dr. Loveless tries to do this. It looks like he is going to succeed for a while as he catches West after West infiltrates his operation.

Artie shows up a an arms dealers trying to make a crooked deal to equip Wynnes force and eventually West & Artie stop them cold. There is some decent stunt work & more than a few blanks fired in this episode as the episode moves along at a pretty brisk pace.

Good episode in the line of the first season fashion

As the other review said, that's not the first time in the season that it is question of conquest of the south California. t became nearly recurent in this season. That said, it is also pleasant to see William Campbell as the big bad guy's - Keenan Wynn - sidekick and wearing an outfit and also hand gloved as he was in his Johnny Cool character BACKLASH, remember? When he was fighting against Dick Widmark...

Goof-

At 55 min, West and the General are fighting, he slams a bottle over West's left arm, his sleeve is soaked. Then the next cut shows his sleeve completely dry.
