Actress Sharon Farrell, who plays Cloris, would herself suffer from amnesia a few years later after experiencing a stroke while giving birth to her son. By Sharon's own account, it took three years to recover and she still suffers from some memory loss.
Crotty refers to the people who might die as a result of not getting the vaccine as "the Great Unwashed". That line originated in the novel 'Paul Clifford', by Edward Bulwer-Lytton: "He is certainly a man who bathes and 'lives cleanly', (two especial charges preferred against him by Messrs. the Great Unwashed)." ['Paul Clifford' is probably better known as the novel with the "worst opening line" in history: "It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents-except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness." The first seven words have given inspiration to the annual Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, in which contestants think-up terrible openings for imaginary novels.]
