- Capt. Wade Forrest: What did he say?
- Flint McCullough: He said his uncle, Chief White Cloud, has given him the honor of torturing his old friend.
- Capt. Wade Forrest: [to Flint McCullough] You're the renegade white man, the friend of the Sioux, that killed my men, that put torches to my feet.
- Flint McCullough: Anyway, when we found that you'd been taken alive, I headed back to the fort and Curly headed for the village. He was going to talk to White Cloud to try to get you out. At least that's what he said.
- Capt. Wade Forrest: Yeah. Instead he watched them torture me.
- Flint McCullough: Almost five years since I saw it last.
- Curly Horse: She's still there.
- Flint McCullough: Who are you talking about?
- Curly Horse: Who you talk about? Major Barnham's daughter.
- Flint McCullough: You think you're so smart, don't you?
- Curly Horse: Smarter than white men who build fort enemies can fire down into.
- Curly Horse: I trail you since sun-up.
- Flint McCullough: You think I don't know.
- Curly Horse: I think you didn't know.
- Flint McCullough: How could I miss you? I was downwind.
- Flint McCullough: I wonder why the Cheyenne have turned against me.
- Curly Horse: You white man. Trouble come. Big trouble.
- Major P.S. Barham: Well, by golly, it's Flint McCullough.
- Martha Barham: What's he coming here for?
- Major P.S. Barham: You'll have to ask him that.
- Martha Barham: I have no intention of asking him anything.
- Major P.S. Barham: Ooh. I thought you used to like him.
- Major P.S. Barham: There's always been trouble between the Sioux and the Cheyenne.
- Flint McCullough: This is a little more than a little trouble. Go ahead, tell him, Curly.
- Curly Horse: I Sioux.
- Flint McCullough: And I'm a white man from the Utah Territory. We grew up together. You taught me your language and I taught you mine. And I think now is a good time to use it. Now tell him.
- Curly Horse: I not traitor to my own people.
- Flint McCullough: You're not being a traitor if you stop bloodshed.
- Private Silas Carpenter: They're dead, Sir, they're all dead.
- Capt. Wade Forrest: The Sioux will be back for the scalps once they catch the horses.
- Major P.S. Barham: [He hands her a small pistol] Martha, if anything should happen, you'll remember what you have to do.
- Martha Barham: I know.
- Martha Barham: You're friends with the Siuox.
- Flint McCullough: I'm a friend of Curly Horse.
- Martha Barham: So you keep saying. What are you? Blood brothers?
- Flint McCullough: Practically. I met him at Fort Bridger when I was 14. He was as cautious as a young deer when he came into the Fort. But after a while he learned he could trust a white kid too. After that we were together all the time. Hunting. Fishing. Harasseling. We exchanged tokens. He made me this belt. I made him a, I made him a necklace with a copper penny on it. Just a couple of cubs together.
- Major Seth Adams: Looks to me like you had to leave some place in a hurry, huh?
- Flint McCullough: Yup.
- Major Seth Adams: What happened? Girl's father take after you with a shotgun? Set a fire under yer?
- Flint McCullough: Yup. Something like that.
- Major Seth Adams: Here, have some coffee.
- Flint McCullough: Thank you.
- Major Seth Adams: Now let's start from the beginning.
- Flint McCullough: Well, once upon a time.
- Major Seth Adams: Oh, shut up.
- Flint McCullough: She's alive... Get a hold of yourself, Forrest. She's here. Black Panther's getting ready to make her his squaw.
- Curly Horse: I learnt to lie straight-faced like a white man.
- Flint McCullough: I learnt a lot from you. Come along, Curly. You don't belong here with...
- Curly Horse: Savages?
- Flint McCullough: I didn't say that. I guess all men are savages when they fight for survival.
- Martha Barham: What are they saying?
- Flint McCullough: [Both Martha and Flint are tied to a post] Black Panther wants you for his squaw.
- Martha Barham: No. NO. NO!
- Flint McCullough: Hold on... Curly, Curly.
- [Curly approaches and thumps Flint in the face]
