- Leland confesses to killing Jacques Renault. Andy wants to take a new sperm count test. Rumor spreads that a food critic is coming to Twin Peaks. Jean asks Ben to set a trap for Cooper in exchange for Audrey's life.
- The episode begins with Leland Palmer (Ray Wise) escaping into some weird imagines, as crawling from a hole on the wall. He is at the police station being interrogated by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) and Sheriff Harry S. Truman (Michael Ontkean). He confesses that he killed Jacques Renault because he was the person arrested for having killed Laura Palmer, and that was proof enough for him. Dr Hayward (Warren Frost) talks to Cooper about the psychological unstability of Leland. He also thinks that Leland attacked Dr. Jacoby that night under the false thought that it'd be a nice way of protecting Laura - who was already dead at that time. On his way out, he also talks with disastrous Sheriff Deputy Andy Brenna (Harry Goaz) who wants to take a sperm test again to know for sure whether he can father children or not. Dr Hayward tells him to bring a sample. Andy goes to gents' with container and some magazine and bumps onto Lucy Moran (Kimmy Robertson). She picks up the candy which has fallen to the floor, and looks at the soft porn magazine Andy is carrying to the gents'. She thinks he was going to masturbate (and she's right), so she gets really angry. Andy gets speechless and finally runs after Lucy. Later Andy drops the container and tries to pick it up and Cooper realises that Andy is wearing the same boots whose prints they found before.
Benjamin "Ben" Horne (Richard Beymer) has another plan to become richer yet, but he is shown a video of a tied-up and gauged-down woman who happens to be Audrey Horne (Sherilyn Fenn). Ben is asked for a 100,000 ransom money. Jean Renault (Michael Parks) demands that money in cash.
Norma Jenkins (Peggy Lipton) is excited about the possible visit of the mystery travel writer and food critic M. T. Wentz. As she gives the news to her husband and Double R diner worker Hank Jennings (Chris Mulkey), he gets really excited. He immediately devises a plan to make the diner classier, with bunches of flowers and all the paraphernalia.
Ben wants Cooper to be the drop-off man, so he shows the videotape of Audrey to Cooper, as Ben knows that Cooper and Audrey had a special relationship.
Jocelyn "Josie" Packard (Joan Chen) finally gives a hug to Pete Martell (Jack Nance), supposedly after coming back from Seattle from a business trip. She arrives happily, talking as though nothing of important had happened. Pete gives her the bad news that Catherine (Piper Laurie) died on the sawmill fire.
Upon returning to One-Eyed Jacks, Jean and Emory Battis (Don Amendiola) drug captive Audrey to a sitting room. Audrey looks drugged, and she is made to take some more. Renault tries to talk kindly to her. Jean holds a gun, but then the audience learns that he was not threatening Audrey but Emory Battis. Renault kills Emory non-chalantly, then he hugs Audrey who starts to cry while being hugged by Jean.
Cooper tries to make some peace between Lucy and Andy. She says that his behaviour is appaling. Cooper asks Lucy whether she is still seeing "this dick". She says she doesn't know, and Cooper wonders aloud whether Lucy really knows what she wants, to which she answers she doesn't know.
Cooper asks Truman to help him with the investigation of Audrey's kidnapping.
Meanwhile, Donna (Lara Flynn Boyle) continues her own investigation and meets Harold Smith who shows her Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee)'s secret diary which she gave to him for safekeeping, which increases Donna's interest.
A bearded man (Ritch Brinkley) arrives at the Diner, and both Hank and Norma think that this man is Wentz. They give him an extra-special treatment. This man only wants a cheeseburger and to know where the toilet is. Hank sees his identity card and learns that he really is the investigator Daryl Lodwick.
Maddeline "Maddy" Fergunson (dark-haired Sheryl Lee) tells Donna that she and James (James Marshall) are not in love with each other. Donna says it doesn't really matter but behaves in a jealous manner. Donna changes the subject matter to Laura's second diary. When Maddy says that the Sheriff has got Laura's diary, Donna especulates about a secret diary where Laura really wrote her secrets.
Josie comes back to Harry Truman as if nothing had happened. He can't fully believe that she was on a normal business trip without telling anyone, and has suspicious about the insurance money. She feels outraged. A hidden shadow is looking at them while they are making love.
The judge Clinton Sternwood (Royal Dano) arrives and hugs Lucy. She doesn't want to tell what's happening to her. She rejects the money offered to her by Dick Tremayne (Ian Buchanan) to take care off "the little problem". Judge Sternwood talks to Leland, who insists in refusing a professional lawyer as he intends to represent himself. Judge Clinton Sternwood is concerned about how he was treated, but Leland replies that he has been treated well by the police staff.
Japanese businessman Mr Tomajura ("Fumio Yamaguchi" / Piper Laurie) arrives to the local Twin Peaks hotel. The hotel receptionist (Bellina Logan) of the Great Northern Hotel phones Donna straight away because she thinks that this man is Wentz. Josie introduces her cousin Jonathan Lee(Mak Takano) from Hong Kong to Pete. She needs Petes' signature because he's Catherine's heir, so she can get the insurance money from the sawmill fire. Jonathan immediately gives Hank Jennings a beating for threatening Josie.
