Intro parodying
TheLittleSongbird28 December 2020
"Here's Hamton", when re-watching all the episodes and with slightly above average memories, did intrigue me a good deal. Being somebody that really loved the idea of television intros being parodied, something that 'Tiny Toon Adventures' had not done for a whole episode before. Have always loved seeing Plucky and Hamton together, as it reminds me of Daffy and Porky (a fine example of an odd couple gelling so well). There was a slight worry, as there are more interesting characters on the show than Hamton. Though he is fine when with Plucky.

Evident very much so in "Here's Hamton". An episode that does incredibly well with its concept and the chemistry between Plucky and Hamton shines whenever they're together. Hamton doesn't fare quite as well on his own, but has great rapport with the other characters. Of the three segments, "Milk It Makes a Baby Spout", "America's Least Wanted" and "Drawn and Buttered", two are great (one more than that actually) and one is okay.

That okay segment is "Drawn and Buttered". A bit over-stretched story-wise, occasionally repetitive and compared to the razor sharp wit and wackiness of the other two segments it's a little bland. Hamton fares quite well though.

Faring the best of the three segments is "America's Least Wanted". There is nearly always one segment for nearly every segment structured episode of 'Tiny Toon Adventures' that comes very close to capturing the spirit of classic Looney Tunes, and that's what happens here in "America's Least Wanted" from "Here's Hamton". It is another very funny, wacky and suspenseful segment like a couple of other segments from previous episodes and the put to the test relationship between Plucky and Hamton is handled brilliantly. The two are an odd couple in terms of personality but together they gel very well and the chemistry surprisingly has always made sense.

"Milk It Makes a Baby Spout" isn't quite as inventive, but again it is very amusing and suitably looney. Carried too by the chemistry between Plucky, Hamton and Buster (the latter also on form). The show always varied with its wraparound stories and, while other episodes have slightly more interesting ones, the wraparound story is fun here and it was great that the segments managed to fit the intro parodying theme ("America's Least Wanted" further managing to have a truly compelling story to go with it).

Animation is vibrantly coloured and beautifully rich in detail, not just the backgrounds but also the expressions and reactions of the characters which are wonderfully looney. The music is dynamic and characterful as always and the theme song has always brought a smile to my face. Something that was the case when a child and still is now. Most of the characterisation is fine and the voice acting excellent.

Very well done episode on the whole. Finishes on the bland side, but the middle especially compels hugely. 8/10
