Based on a story by Aileen Wheeler, a 54-year-old widow who wrote it for a TV Times competition that attracted 11,000 entries. Her story won the top prize of 200 pounds, and she was presented with the cheque by Tales of the Unexpected (1979) executive producer John Woolf, who announced that it would be adapted for the series.

This is the first of two episodes written by the TV Times magazine competition winner Aileen Wheeler, the other being S9 E9, A Time to Die (1988).

This episode stars actress, television host, and rock singer Toyah Willcox, who is something of a punk icon. She is married to guitarist and King Crimson founder Robert Fripp.

Now known as a director, this was the last performance as an actor for Paul Seed.
