Never a dull moment for Jim Hardie

One of the episodes where Jim Hardie runs into a real life villain. This time it's John Wesley Hardin. Lyle Bettger does a good job playing Hardin. Could have used a more gripping story. Maybe more talk about horse racing would have helped

Hardie is the only witness to a robbery. The young man behind bars for armed robbery hopes to get off if his partner has Jim scared off or killed before his trial. Now we know Hardie isn't the kind to be scared off easily and he isn't easy to kill. Not unless he faces a real fast gun. Hardie still hopes to determine who the boy's partner in the robbery, but then that infamous fast gun John Wesley Hardin who has more tricks up his sleeves arrives. One way or another he's going to try to get Hardie to draw ...

A good episode with an engaging plot and a grand performance by Lyle Betger as John Wesley Hardin- his famous grin is in tow as he tries to bait Hardie into drawing. But Hardie resists and is more concerned to get the guy who hired Hardin and is the jailed boy's partner in the armed robbery. Nice swivel holster trick at the end.

During the barroom scene, John Wesley Hardin is showing off the various weapons he carries, among them a pistol in a shoulder holster. History reports that although Hardin did not use an actual shoulder holster, he did have two holsters sewn onto his vest located under the arms in a similar manner, with the pistol grips facing inward, which he would draw simultaneously by crossing both hands to pull them.

In Hardie's ending statement he states that Hardin passed the bar to practice law and had many years. Hardin was released from prison 17 Feb 1894. On 16 March he was pardoned. He passed the bar on 21 July. On 19 Aug 1895 Hardin was murdered by John Selman, Sr.
