When first broadcast, the script for this episode was initially credited solely to Glen A. Larson. However, the script was simply a very thinly-disguised rewrite of This Case Is Closed (1974), an episode of ''The Rockford Files'', with an identical plot and very similar dialogue. After vociferous complaints from the writers and producers of The Rockford Files (1974), the writing credit for "Death by Resurrection" was given over entirely to Stephen J. Cannell (teleplay) and Roy Huggins (story, under his pseudonym "John Thomas James"), who had together written the original ''Rockford Files'' episode. All prints of the episode now credit Cannell and James as writers.
