Warning: Spoilers
(Ever so sorry for this awfully easy Summary, by the way. I just couldn't pass it up.)

So this is the freebie episode of the year. Lots of archive footage, and not a single new shot of SG1. And when I've waited for seven days for a new episode, I like to watch a *new* episode. Not bits and odds of old ones. I disliked Politics (S1). I hated Disclosure (S6).

And yet... and yet I rather like this episode. The amount of reminiscence is tolerable, and it is rather amusing to hear Wolsey go on and on about all the odd things that have happened to SG1 over the years --without peppering it all with 10s-shots of old episodes. Honestly, the whole list does not really inspire trust!

But what makes this episode much better than either Politics or Disclosure is that it feels *significant*. There's a new President in charge, and the past years have shown how crucial the President's support (or lack thereof) was to the SGC. And this one has Kinsey for a vice-president, which gives a rather bad first impression of him.

So the whole episode is about what changes Pdt Hayes will bring to the Stargate program, and you have to pity the poor bloke for a very bad first day at his new job. But he is a very likely character -a smoother, suaver version of O'Neill: when Kinsey started annoying him I almost expected him to mutter "oh, for cryin' out loud!" (Honestly, I doubt that he would ever be elected in real life!) Anyway, this episode really changes the overall situation. Despite his obvious enthusiasm for the Stargate program and its crew, Hayes rightfully points out that the public may not see it the same way. And I like that even though it is slowly turning Kinsey into a classic villain, the series also acknowledges that he has a point.

Decent Overview

Whenever SG1 is attacked by bureaucrats, it tends to go into eye-roll territory. So are plenty of the rehash episodes but this is more substantive, like in "Disclosure" because it actually serves a meaningful narrative purpose. There's a new President and it's somewhat interesting to see an honest actor process the existence of the Stargate program. Plus it almost seems to mock the premise of the protagonists falling victim to these cloak and dagger spooks who have inspired some of the worst episodes.

A new regime

Another season, another retrospective, at least this time they did progress the storyline in the process. The new characters were interesting and will hopefully shift the dynamic of the stargate program.

Leave Politics to the Real Life or Serious Films
claudio_carvalho24 April 2018
Fans of sci-fi films or series expect to see adventures with aliens, outer space, invasion, and contact with new civilizations. In general, the storylines of "Stagate SG-1" satisfy the fans. But episodes like "Inauguration" are annoying filler and waste of time. The writers should leave the dirty politics to the real life or serious political film and never use in a sci-fi series. My vote is five.
