- [as The Doctor sings La Donna E Mobile in the mess hall, Tuvok begins to cry]
- Tom Paris: [quietly] Tuvok...
- [Tuvok goes from crying to laughing uncontrollably, then grunting, as if in pain]
- Tom Paris: Tuvok.
- [Tuvok starts thrashing around]
- Captain Janeway: [clicks her combadge] Janeway to Security, get a team to the mess hall right away!
- The Doctor: Stand back! He's been seized by the pon farr! A neurochemical imbalance is driving him to mate. We won't be able to reason with him!
- The Doctor: [starts singing to the melody of the music] Tuvok, I understand / you are a Vulcan man. / You have just gone without / For seven years, about. / Paris, please find a way / To load a hypospray. / I will give you the sign / Just aim for his behind. / Hormones are raging, / Synapses blazing. / It's all so veee-...
- [Tom loads and throws the hypospray to the Doctor, who catches it while sustaining a note]
- The Doctor: ...hery illogical.
- [injects Tuvok in the butt with the hypospray; Tuvok collapses]
- The Doctor: [finishing the song] Illogical. Iii-ll... illogical.
- [last lines]
- Seven of Nine: Congratulations, Doctor.
- [she kisses him on the cheek]
- Seven of Nine: That was a platonic gesture. Don't expect me to pose for you.
- The Doctor: Noted.
- The Doctor: The Borg, the Hierarchy, it's all the same to me - just another bully who didn't know when to back off.
- The Doctor: Thank you for this opportunity, Captain. All I've ever wanted was to live up to my full potential, to hone all my skills, expand my abilities, to help the people I love.
- [first lines]
- The Doctor: Somewhere, in that totality known as the universe, is a galaxy called the Milky Way. Tucked into the corner of that galaxy is a planet named Earth. On that planet is a city called Mantua. Go straight ahead, past the fountain, turn right, then left, and right again. You'll find yourself walking along the water, listening, as a man sings of his beloved's unfaithful heart. And even the fish begin to weep. Quando La Donna E Mobile.
- The Doctor: Tuvok! Activate the photonic cannon!
- [everyone else looks at each other, stunned]
- The Doctor: Tuvok, that was an order!
- Tuvok: Activating the photonic cannon... sir.
- The Borg: We are the Borg.
- The Doctor: I know very well who you are. Stand down your weapons.
- The Borg: State your designation.
- The Doctor: Emergency Command Hologram, at your service.
- The Borg: Designation unknown.
- The Doctor: Not for long.
- [the crew is monitoring the Doctor's daydreams]
- The Doctor: Computer, activate the Emergency Command Hologram.
- Harry Kim: This is the part I like.
- Captain Janeway: [after the Doctor has mastered the 'field test'] I'm going to authorize a research project, to explore your command abilities. You're a natural.
- Captain Janeway: [reading from a PADD] "To Captain Kathryn Janeway, Starship Voyager, from Emergency Medical Hologram, Starship Voyager. Topic: Status of Emergency Medical Hologram, Starship Voyager."
- [Phlox has suggested to the Overlooker to tap into Voyager's computer core to get information on it]
- The Overlooker: Unacceptable risk!
- [the Hierachy aliens debate whether to attack Voyager or not]
- Phlox: Launching an attack against such a heavily-armed vessel carries a great risk. And for what? A little anti-matter and some dilithium.
- The Overlooker: Your survey indicated large quantities of both. We've already committed substantial resources to mounting this assault. Were you mistaken?
- Phlox: No! I... eeh... uh... Not at all. I'm just... sounding a note of caution.
- The Overlooker: If our boarding party doesn't find Voyager exactly as you've described it, the Hierarchy will be informed.
- Phlox: [defiantly] I understand. There has been no mistake.
- The Overlooker: Then we'll proceed.
- [walks away]
- Phlox: [quietly to Devro] I've made a terrible mistake!
- [the Doctor has filed a formal grievance, along with a request to be made captain in the event of a catastrophic emergency]
- Captain Janeway: I don't want anybody to be uncomfortable on this ship. I guess we should all try to be a little more considerate of his feelings.
- Tom Paris: Captain, he does it to himself. He's Chief Medical Officer. Is it our fault that's not enough for him?
- Phlox: The Hierarchy does not tolerate mistakes or misinformation. If they learn of my error... I'll lose my livelihood.
- The Doctor: Well, that's what you get for being a peeping Tom.
- [in one of The Doctor's daydreams, Kim reports the warp containment field failing]
- Crewman: [barely discernible background dialogue] Forget the children! Save yourselves!
- [the Doctor is afraid of failing in his first real command experience]
- Harry Kim: Listen, Doc, the whole reason you wanted to be able to daydream was to test out possibilities, right? Well, consider this a field test.
- The Doctor: He mistakenly informed his superiors that I was in command of Voyager. To keep himself from being demoted, he wants us to maintain that fiction. When they open a channel, I have to be sitting in the captain's chair.
