A solid start.

Tim and Daisy randomly meet one day, both in need of a flat, both wanting one that requires a professional couple, the pair must unite.

It's been years since I watched this when it first went out, and in watching it for the first time since, I remember it being super funny, and pretty original.

It's like a role call of British comedy talent, more quality here than you can shake a stick at, I love how young Simon Pegg looks.

It's a good start, it introduces the characters well, it sets the tone, which is wonderfully surreal, and we get a few laughs, it gets a lot funnier.

6/10.

The first episode feels like a slacker and hip version of Rising Damp.

Tim Bisley (Simon Pegg) and Daisy Steiner (Jessica Hynes) pretend to be a couple in order to secure a flat from landlady Marsha who lives in the same house.

He wants to be a comic book illustrator she wants to be a writer. In this episode they throw a party so we see the other residents of the flat and Tim's friends such as the army obsessed Mike (Nick Frost.)

It is a motley bunch and the episode is full of hip and happening references. I wonder how many people would have heard of Wolverine back in 1999 as the first X-Men movie was yet to be released.

Spaced does feel like a time warp comedy now, very much 1990s with its pop cultural references. Ironically one of the characters disliked the song Time Warp being played at the party.

The irreverent tone was picked up by other comedies such as Green Room.
