The Woman With Two Brains
ShadeGrenade20 February 2009
Warning: Spoilers
A mysterious phenomenon ( what 'Red Dwarf' would term a 'swirly-thing alert'! ) engulfs the Moon, splitting it into two. Personnel are duplicated, with the exception of Regina Kesslann ( Judy Geeson ) who babbles incessantly about Alan and Koenig being dead, and talks as though she is back on Earth. Shocked at seeing Alan ( a man she hardly knows but believes she was married to ) in Main Mission, she drops dead. An X-ray reveals the presence in her skull of two ( count 'em ) brains!

As if that was not bizarre enough, the Moon has returned to its point of origin - our Solar System. In its absence the Earth has become uninhabitable, except for an area called Santa Maria. Another Moon is in the sky. Koenig and Alan find the other Alpha deserted, and the remains of a crashed Eagle containing the corpses of their duplicates...

In 1969, Gerry and Sylvia Anderson made a feature film called 'Doppelganger' ( a.k.a. 'Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun' ) which postulated the theory that Earth had a twin, inhabited by duplicates. That idea is revisited here. The absurd notion of one person having two brains ( where could the other one conceivably go? ) aside, it is an intriguing tale, affording a glimpse into an alternative future for the Alphans, one in which Koenig and Alan are dead, Bergman survived, Sandra had Paul's babies, and Helena lost pride in her appearance. Still sounds more appealing than Year 2 to me.

The lovely Judy Geeson guest stars as 'Regina', although gets little to do other than act in a deranged manner. I felt most sorry for Alan - fancy being married to Judy Geeson, only to then discover it never happened.

Time corrects itself eventually, and the normal course of history is resumed, all with no help from Dr.Who whatsoever!

This is a very weird episode....even for "Space: 1999".
planktonrules1 May 2010
The show begins with one of the crew being knocked out during some weird inter-stellar occurrence. When she awakens, she thinks that, among other things, that Carter and Commander Koenig have been dead for some time. And, even weirder, she thinks she is Allen Carter's widow and she now has a chance to see her dead husband!!! Does she have precognition about some things that are to come? Is she just crazy? Or, is there some other odd explanation?

If this isn't weird enough, now the Moon has just assumed orbit back around the Earth! Considering that the had just been floating s aimlessly in another solar system, this IS pretty weird! Weirder yet--the Earth isn't answering Moonbase's signals. Weirdest yet...once in orbit, they soon see ANOTHER Moon--an exact copy with a Moonbase as well!! Amazingly enough...it STILL keeps getting weirder!! Overall, not a bad episode, but not one of the best. Interesting but a bit silly...even for "Space: 1999".

By the way, if you think you recognize the pretty lady who plays guest lead, that's Judy Geeson. You may recognize her from "Brannigan" or any one of the many, many British or American TV shows on which she's appeared.

Back to Earth!!
elo-equipamentos24 June 2017
Space 1999 is a regular sci-fi series, but this episode is superior than the others, the Moonbase somehow enter in parallel world, all the crew have a collateral damages, however suddenly they notice that are back to the Earth, strangely nothing is heard about signal sent to Earth, no answer, they realized another Moon in the Earth's Orbit and trying to understand what's really happening, so Koenig decides to goes to another Moon and the Earth, even the plot having some holes the episode is very interesting and creative premise than the usual.

One of the best in the series

Warning: Spoilers
I would have been a bit bored with Another Time, Another Place as an 8 year old when it debuted in 1975 - lots of dialogue, not a lot of spaceships etc., but as an adult it is one of my favourites in the series. Judy Geeson as the ill-fated Regina and Barbara Bain as the 2 Helenas both register strongly here. Everything that happens on the 'alternate Earth' is compelling : These are some of the most emotional moments in the series. There is one moment when Koening first encounters Victor on the 'alternate Earth' that I find very eerie - it must be the way Martin Landau is lit, but his eyes and smile make him look oddly sinister! Very cinematic and highly atmospheric - this one is recommended.

One of the best Episodes
adlvcolt20 July 2011
The Alphans enters a parallel universe and believe the "unknown force" took them back home. Commander Koenig finds that hard to believe and when they were ready to accept it another mystery arises and the existence of the Alphans and Moonbase itself is put on the line. Alphans had to deal with an earth that is not their home as they expected, with few human population. They do not welcome them either. Finally they have to make a tough decision if they want to survive. There is an amusing moment when a Main Mission operative (Paul) can be seen briefly using his commlock as a computer punching buttons frenetically, when I watched it the first time as a kid I found it unbelievably to use such a tiny device as a computer. Today is common to see people punching buttons frenetically in their smartphones. The episode arise again the concept of a God or Force that guide their destiny like in Black Sun and have good performances from the cast, specially Victor Bergman (Barry Morse). Great dialogue and good ending.

AN INTERESTING EPISODE OF ALTER EGOS
duncanbrown-767337 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What I like about this episode is the regular cast play themselves twice. The first being there usual characters, and the second being there secondary or alter egos on the ravaged earth.

That shows just how actors can excel themselves within there own personas.

The technology in this episode is fascinating, alongside with the sets that are used as the ravaged earth.

Worth watching.

not so hot!
mm-392 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love Another Time, Another Place as a child. With Tubi I could relive all my childhood t v memories. Well the sets, acting and directing is still good. What I did not like was the sci fi story. Lame! I had it figured out in 30 seconds. A mix of unbelievable and stupid. The two moon collide is a bit was a stretch for even sci fi! The earth almost died etc and the over long explanation was a bit long and killed the story. A the women with two brains was the other episode killer. Too much too digest. What I like was the finding of the dead commander Keonic etc and two individuals can not co exist. The few bright spots in the script just could not save this episode. 4 stars. What Another Time, Another Place on fast forward.
