Not For the Typical Viewer
JayDub1475 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Many people dislike this episode, mainly for the reason that it includes none of the major SP characters. Also, it is admittedly not quite as funny as some other episodes, due in part to the same reason as before. However, the episode, while somewhat esoteric in nature (it is based on a Charles Dickens novel after all), will still manage to entertain most viewers. For those who have read Great Expectations, they will find a very interesting parody, and will be able to identify to the deeper purpose of the satirical ending. Regardless, while not a must watch for everyone, I see no reason why it would be a waste of time to watch this episode.

I was pretty confused at first, but it's grown on me a lot.

The first 10 minutes were definitely a head scratcher, the main characters are entirely absent, but the episode really grew on me. Malcolm McDowell is hilarious, and the "alternate" ending to the Charles Dickens masterpiece is hilarious.

I got the feeling that Trey and Matt were having a lot of fun with the episode, so I did as well. It's definitely not for everyone though.

Extremely underrated
nnqgddb19 January 2022
Such an underrated episode, if you get the annoyance of a lack of main characters out of your head then you can enjoy the comedy in this episode, all the introduced characters are funny with classic South Park humour. I hate how hated this episode is.

He's 17 and he has a car

Matt & Trey stated that this is their least favorite episode and they regret making it. Personally I think it's slightly underrated, no it's not a masterpiece but it does have it's moments. I'm quite familiar with the story it's based on and I have actually read the book. Which may be the reason why I appreciate this episode more than regular viewers.

No it's not an accurate representation of the book.. Robot monkeys and 17 year old American guys with cars in 19th century England, I mean c'mon lol. It's not supposed to be accurate, it's a parody and a fine one at that. Far from the best South Park has to offer but not as bad as they say.

Not bad but still one of the worst episodes
gangstahippie11 November 2008
Pip is a strange South Park episode. Most South Park fans will not like it(unless maybe you are both a fan of South Park and Charles Dickens).None of the main characters appear in this episode, it's solely an episode revolving around Pip.Pip is the British kid who usually is bullied by the boys(especially in Season 1).This is his own episode. The episode features Malcom McDowell(of Clockwork Orange fame) telling the story of Pip, which is basically a spoof of the Charles Dickens novel "Great Expectations" which I have not read.Pip is a poor blacksmith who falls in love with a girl, but the girl's mother wants her to break his heart so his tears can be used in a machine which will make the mother look younger. The episode is cut into three acts and involves robot monkey's as well. There are some funny parts in the episode, but it is one of the most unfunny episodes of the show.It is also sometimes hard to understand the characters.Pip is one of the worst South Park episodes but it is still decent. There are no really bad episodes of South Park in my opinion.

Pip Warning: Spoilers
I say this episode is incredible. It might not have the boys, might not be the most hilarious, but it is still a classic. Pip is one of the best characters, anyway. This episode is based off of "Great Expectations", a book by Charles Dickens. Except it has a few differences, including robot monkeys!! Even if you don't like this episode, you have to face the fact that it is part of South Park history. I admit, without the boys, it's not AS funny as it could be, but still has its laughs such as when Pocket is trying to teach Pip how to be fancy at the dinner table. I think it is unfair to put this list on some list such as "Top 10 Worst Episodes Of South Park". And if you don't like it, then don't put it in any list. If you don't like the episode, you should still appreciate it. I mean, you got to learn Pip's origin!

Give some respect to the young laddie. Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand why people don't like this episode. I enjoyed for what it's worth, but that was because I like Pip as a character, especially in the early seasons. I liked how in the show, Pip has so much crap thrown his way, yet always has a smile on his face. Sure, I get that Butters technically took his place, but Pip had a good time in the spotlight during Season 1. I think an issue with including Pip as a primary character in the episode is the fact that his previous prominent role was in "Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub", which was in Season 3, and early on at that, and then only getting a minor speaking role in "Cartman's Silly Hate Crime 2000". Whenever he gets a speaking role, it's just pleasant to see Pip try to behave like a nice gentleman even after what happens to him. It's why I found moments like when he says "Oh dear. I've cracked me noggin" hilarious in "The Unaired Pilot". While I wouldn't understand the faithfulness to Great Expectations since I have only read the Carol Ann Duffy poem "Havisham", I still enjoyed it. It's such a shame that Pip's prominence kinda faded after this episode, since I'm aware his only other major prominent role was being a playable character in the game "South Park Let's Go Tower Defence Play". Unfortunately, fans of the show will not get to know what happens to Pip, given that "201" is such a controversial episode that it's literally impossible to find legally. It's not available on streaming services, on DVD, and on the official South Park website.

My God, this is a bad episode!
burteriksson13 January 2021
This must be easily one of the worst episodes. The plot goes nowhere and nothing happens. Luke a lukewarm bowl of water with some lumps in it and those lumps don't taste like anything either.

It felt like this episode lasted for 45 minutes - and not in a good way.

What a Smashing Episode!

Warning: Spoilers
Pip, is this an episode based on a boring and difficult story or not? Several people have stayed away from this episode, I think. If so, this could be the reason. But, if you have watched the episode from start to finish excluding the intro and credits, you would see a funny episode. This episode does not only include some of the original story if this is a story. I believe I do see some thing from a book. But, based on a book or originality, this episode contains robots, computers, and males. Unusual, isn't it? I recommend this episode for many people who are fans of South Park. But, if you dislike the episodes where the creators stay away from the original plot and try something a little different or a lot different, you should stay away from this plot as you might find it very horrible.

There's no point
ericstevenson2 July 2018
This episode focuses entirely on Pip and features none of the other main characters. I could have sworn that was Anthony Hopkins talking but it was actually Malcolm McDowell. I admit to knowing nothing about the book "Great Expectations". I can assume this at least somewhat resembles it. There were definitely some good jokes there like the baby bunnies. The episode itself was at least creative.

The weirdest thing was how they just mostly got rid of Pip after this as he had speaking lines in only two subsequent episodes. Why did Trey Parker and Matt Stone go through all this trouble with a character they were going to get rid of anyway? They realized Butters worked better as a character everyone picked on. I mean, this really just has no reason to exist at all. It's probably the worst episode in the entire series. I think it's even worse than the Terrance and Phillip one. **

Look here I made me a metal orange!

This episode does not deserve some of the hate that it is receiving. I personally find this episode to be extremely underrated and funny. I think a lot of people dislike this episode because it breaks away from the main 4 boys, but I loved seeing Pip star in his own episode, which he definitely deserved. This episode still made me laugh when I rewatched it a couple days ago. I will admit, the story gets a little weird at the end, but that's what's expected. It's a South Park episode after all. This episode was one of Pip's last major roles in the series, which was sad, but I'm glad he at least got a solo episode. In conclusion, I would highly recommend this episode to anyone who has yet to watch it.
