After "Cartman's Mom is Still a Dirty Slut", I found the subsequent two episodes slightly underwhelming. They were good but I thought they were slightly missed opportunities as far as humour was concerned. This episode, "Conjoined Fetus Lady" is a return to form if you will.
The two main story lines involve the introduction of South Park Elementary's Nurse Gollum, a kind and strong minded woman who bears a terrible deformity. When this condition is brought to the attention of Kyle's mother, and more specifically the mockery made of this disfigurement, she plans to start a revolution in town to be more hospitable towards the nurse. As expected, things go awry.
Elsewhere, the boys sports class enter a dodgeball tournament in which the English student, Pip, is the star.
Both story lines are entertaining. It is refreshing to see sports being portrayed in a different light in this series, especially dodgeball. None of the kids in the gang's class seem too enthusiastic about the notion of playing this game.
Then there's the story of Nurse Gollum which takes on an "Elephant Man" sort of message of human amusement towards deformed individuals. Even as the town's citizens attempt to be as pleasant as they can, the entire event is commercialized. The moment with the conjoined fetus hat was absolutely hysterical and a fine summation of the episode's absurd greatness.
I really enjoyed this one. It moves as at a better pace than previous episodes and has a stronger distribution of comedy throughout the runtime.
