Adriana is advised during a legal consultation that, in order to claim "marital privilege," the communication must have been made during the course of the marriage (communications before the marriage don't count), must involve only the spouses, and must not be made in furtherance of a crime. Though this is true of the "spousal privilege" exception to the Federal Rules of Evidence (which would allow either Adriana or Christopher to both refuse to repeat communications made to each other during marriage and prevent the other from doing so in either a criminal or civil case), it is not true of the "spousal immunity" exception, which would indeed have allowed Adriana to refuse to testify in a criminal proceeding against Christopher, even to communications made before the marriage, so long as the two were married at the time the state attempted to compel Adriana to the stand.
Sally Stewart who plays the Lenore, the wife of Maurice Tiff, is the ex fiancee of Michael Imperioli. They were together in the late 80's after meeting in an acting class. According to Michael via his Soprano's podcast, their break up was initially rough, but the two eventually became friends again.
In a 2021 interview, Peter Riegert discussed the closing scene where Tony beats Zellman with his own belt. When Riegert attended the table read, he was shocked and upset to see that Tony would pull Zellman's underwear off and whip his bare backside. Afterward, James Gandolfini approached Riegert, having noticed his discomfort. When he learned that Riegert was uncomfortable with having to be nude, Gandolfini asked David Chase to change the scene so Zellman remained partially clothed.
The teleplay was co-authored by writer Nick Santora his very first TV credit and his only contribution to the series. He would go on to write or produce for eight other shows, including Law & Order (1990) and more recently Vegas (2012).
