The Prodigal Son has Returned
Rcwilkinson12319 September 2007
The great appeal of this episode is the revelation, after a few episodes that explore that Lex either had a brother or could have possibly had a half-brother, that Lex does indeed have a true, full-blooded, alive brother, in the form of Lucas, who is addicted to gambling.

Lex discovers this long-lost brother after getting Lucas out of a sticky situation in the city. However, Lucas does not return the favor to Lex. Due to his father's favoritism in him, Lucas causes Lex to be forced out of the mansion, forcing him to beg to stay in the Kent home, much to Jonathan's chagrin. For a while, Lucas pretends to assist his father in searching Lex's recent dealings before blackmailing Lionel with Lex. However, after this occurs, Lex still rightfully regards Lucas as a traitor who is wrong to betray someone yet still expect them to forgive and respect you as if nothing ever happened.

This episode was interesting in extending Lex's family, giving both him and Lionel additional depth as characters. It was also a little humorous as well in seeing Lex get shoved off his pedestal and onto a farm.

The long-lost brother of Lex Luther shows up bringing a new twist to Lex's life.

Warning: Spoilers
When Lucas Luther is found, Lionel decides Lucas is his "second chance" but it back fires. at first, Lionel and Lucas work together to not only deprive Lex of all his money, but throw him out of the mansion at which point, Lex seeks residence with the Kent's. it was an interesting sensation to see Lex finally have sibling after the story that was told in "Stray" about his brother, Julian, who'd died as a baby, then in "Lineage" where he was lead to think that Clark might have been his brother. now, when he finds his half brother and brings him home, he gets something less than gratitude. but there's another twist in the works when Lex and Lucas turn on their father with a plan of their own, and discover what Lionel has been hiding. the episode was fun, funny, well thought out, and overall, well worth the watch....and re-watch! I give "Prodigal" nine.

Lex Homeless and Other Surprises

Lex Luthor rescues his brother Lucas (Paul Wesley) from a dangerous situation and brings him to Smallville to help him in a commercial dispute against his father. However, Lucas stays side by side with Lionel getting all the wealthy of Lex. The homeless Lex Luthor is lodged by Jonathan and his family, while Clark Kent tries to fix the situation.

"Prodigal" is one of the best episodes of "Smallville". The story has many revelations, twists and surprises, and unfortunately I can not comment without spoilers. Therefore, do not miss this great episode to check my opinion. My vote is ten.
