the beginning of the end

Warning: Spoilers
At the time I didn't see anything that different about this episode; it was just a continuation of their adventure. That however was far from being the case. aside from being something of a disappointment this marked the beginning of the transition from plot-driven to character driven episodes. Here's what happened in the episode.

Quinn and Maggie get to earth prime, the name for the world the 4 started from, and it's a disaster/war zone. The kromaggs, presumably from "invasion" have taken over. The 2 remaining sliders make allies from within the human fighting force and break Rembrant free. people die, but Quinn meets his mother. Well, the mother he grew up with. and Rembrant and Maggie have a touching conversation that I won't go into.

problems one and two right there. most of this season involves the kromaggs in one way or another. the rest focus on the relationships between the main characters. Normally this would not be a problem but the possible earths and futures we could encounter or would have been living under was at one point the main premise of the show and was the main reason many took the time to watch it.

By the way: problem three was not having the mother he grew up with be his birth mother. I mean doesn't that sort of take away from the previous episodes? It did for me. The entire purpose of sliding is changed in these episode and in my opinion, it's for the worse. but Please, watch this episode form your own opinion on it. thank you.

Earth Lost
NickBOKC11 February 2022
Quinn and Maggie finally make their way back to Earth Prime only to discover that it was conquered by the Kromaggs. Sadly, Rembrandt and Wade were taken prisoner. This was a really dark episode. Scattered resistance fighters are no match for these freaks of nature. I have a feeling that we'll never see Wade again. Quinn was also given shocking information that causes the group to slide again. This wasn't a bad episode, but the original plot of the series has changed. I hope that future episodes are not as dark and violent. I enjoy the sliding to new worlds but the Kromaggs need to go. Hopefully this plot change will work out in the end. My dream of seeing the real professor drinking tea and eating crumpets with Mrs. Mallory in the final episode is over.

Bad horror show writing
TomSunhaus14 May 2020
The horror show trend of the show (Peckinpah influence?) becomes repetitive in a way. A cliche of this sort of writing occurs when the characters derive a meaning of life from fake monsters & crisis situations. Quinn & Maggie have a 'meaning of life' conversation while faced with another monster episode situation. Lazy work for a writer. The writer's ego creates a fake situation with crazy monsters & bridges the gap with his or her own conclusion about life in general. The writer also throws in a stolen concept from a superhero movie. I think people that do a lot of this type of show or movie actually loves the monsters & foist them on the public pretending that they are the bad guy. It is at it's heart dishonest.
