In real life, Michael Richards was drafted into the United States Army in 1970. He trained as a medic and was stationed in West Germany before being honorably discharged.
In this episode, George (Jason Alexander) thinks to himself that the Ginger Ale in the coffee shop is just "Coke and Sprite mixed together". Bartender Ginger Ale is a common technique used when out of Ginger Ale and it consists of mixing those two ingredients.
