One of the very best ever !
nicofreezer31 December 2021
I barely never write reviews but after i saw all the bad reviews on this one i had to step in.

The Puerto rican Day is a fantastic Seinfeld épisode, everything move so fast, so Manue Funny scene, only Elaine story is a bit weak but the references to the jewels under the wood was clever.

Very Funny épisode of sitcom. Who cares if some Puerto ricain are not happy about this one, in a comedy show we Can laugh about everything and everyone, thats why the old sitcoms were the best.

Fun ending to the series
ventidiusrex6 March 2022
It's a fun episode as it moves to the end of the series. I love how that brought back Bob and his partner. I've rewatched this episode about 20 times. Not sure what all the hate is about!

It's funny because it's true!
ianrogers-6996022 April 2022
The area code number change was a HUGE deal when it happened. People with new numbers became outcasts of society. And Puerto Rican day is a traffic NIGHTMARE! Once again, this show mails exactly what it's like to live in NYC.

A show about nothing
ThunderKing620 March 2021
It was an episode about nothing.

This was the last episode before the last episode of the series. I liked it.

It was just of the gang trying to get home through a Puerto Rican Parade.

I liked the bits with George and the laser, Jerry vs Maroon Golf, Kramer and the street toughs and when 3 of the guys meet in the apartment. Elaine's stuff was boring.

For a final episode before the final episode it was good and creative. I love episodes about nothing just so i can feel relaxtained (Relax and entertainment).

What can be learned? Watch out for Maroon Golf and know when Puerto Rican parade is so you can beat or avoid traffic.

Verdict: What a Jack A...

Still not shown in syndication 9/27/2022
cherylder27 September 2022
I only started watching Seinfeld a couple years ago when 2 episodes were shown 11:30PM-12:30AM and I desperately needed to laugh at the end of very long days. So now I'm addicted and watch every show I can. I noticed I see some episodes repeatedly so I wondered what other episodes I might be missing. At some point I was going to buy the full set but when shopping for it, there were so many sets available from so many makers, and some had such bad reviews as to quality, etc, that I didn't buy any. Instead I started a list of every show I saw and then I could see what was missing. Along the way I bought 2 seasons from my cable company, seasons 2 & 3. I forget why I bought them, but season 3 came in handy when I found that the syndicated shows being shown never included season 3 ep.15, which turned out to be "The Suicide" a fun episode where nobody dies, but I understand why they don't show it.

So the only other episode I'm missing now, after a long time, is season 9, ep. 20. So I've just found today, that episode is this "Puerto Rican Day Parade." I guess I've never seen it. Most reviews here say its funny. One reviewer says it's "the worst episode ever" which makes me know I have to see it. It's not even available on the season 9 episodes I would buy from my cable company, so I guess I'll have to go online for it. I'm looking forward to it! Especially since I live in a small-to-medium sized city where the Puerto Rican population is great and we have many Puerto Rican events all year long!

Why The Controversy Surrounding This Episode?
mmazar-0163428 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
What was the controversy surrounding this episode? Why was it not shown in syndication for several years? So what that the Puerto Rican flag was burned in this episode. I am half Croatian and half Czech and I would not have a problem if the Croatian flag or Czech flag were burned because I am not insane.

A Lesser Episode
Hitchcoc19 June 2023
Hey folks--there was no "flag burning" in this episode. Kramer throws a sparkler in the car and the flag catches fire. That allows people to "think" he is a flag burner. I thought this was a weak episode, especially Elaine stupidly trying to get people out of a tight spot by leading them under the bleachers, getting pop and popcorn poured on their heads. The whole business with the cars being stuck in traffic wasn't all that funny. It shows the lesser side of Jerry as he, full of self importance, picks a fight with a guy in a Volkswagen Golf. Anyway, things are winding down pretty badly here. I never had a chance to see this series when it was on, and I am so glad I was finally able to enjoy it. Not every episode is stellar, but it is one of a kind.

Season 9 limping to the finish line
onemorepizza24 April 2021
I have no clue how this episode has an 8.0 because it is barely watchable, like a lot of season 9 it suffers from poor writing to the point a half hour feels like an hour or more. Bad casting, a poor sluggish plot, weak jokes and ridiculous events makes this feel like a messy script cobbled together half-heartedly that nobody involved even wanted to film. Being that it's the last episode the post-Larry David writers got to make and were all in charge of writing together maybe there were too many cooks in the kitchen but the end product is one of the worst episodes of the season if not the series itself.

Offers some good laughs but this is for the most part, a very badly written and cast episode
SLionsCricketreviews23 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
As the other user has mentioned, the casting for the extras in this episode is atrocious! The 'jackass' guy gives a really bad performance, which is evident in just the opening scene. That first scene also goes to show the quality of this episode is not even up to the par level of Season 9, let alone a great "Seinfeld" episode.

I did enjoy some of George's story elements, particularly because of how great Jason Alexander is. I enjoyed the bit where he was at the movies, ready to blurt out his little catchphrase to get some laughs. I did assume that there would be a little "The Opposite" (5x22) reference when George begins to verbally attack the laser guy. The girls in the cinema are horrendous actors for the role, and the writing is atrocious for those two characters.

Elaine's story is terrible, and although JLD is as excellent as she always is, the story borders on abusive and mean, even for "Seinfeld". A part of that story revolves around Elaine trying to escape the parade, by going under the seats at a game. There is a pregnant woman in the midst, and one of the standing police officers/security guards does not give her the chance to leave. They leave her trapped there. That was mean because it wasn't coming from our main characters.

There's a fairly decent scene where George, Jerry and Kramer meet in a woman's apartment under their different aliases. George is Art Vanderlay, Jerry is Mr. Varnsen and Kramer is Mr. Pennypacker. This was a fairly good moment.

The second last episode of "Seinfeld" might be the second worst episode of the entire series, if not the worst. It suffers mostly from some terrible casting decisions (very rare for "Seinfeld") and some bad writing but George makes it bearable.

The worst episode of Seinfeld
ericsmartens31 March 2021
This is the only episode of Seinfeld I skip when rewatching the series. The part where Jerry, Kramer and George all end up in the same apartment is kind of funny but that's it. Elaine's storyline where she gets stuck under the bleachers was dumb as was George trying to get laughs in the movie theater using that line. The guy shining the laser pointer on George was dumb too as was the spat between Jerry and the guy driving the Maroon Golf. Just overall a boring and poorly written episode. I would recommend only watching it once if it's your first time watching Seinfeld but I would not recommend watching on a rewatch.

The worst
Fortressofdoors28 July 2019
I love Seinfeld, but this is the worst episode in the entire series. Almost nothing comes together here, and the parts that were filmed in the studio, don't fit in well with the rest of the "live" action. The cast tries to do the best with what they were given, but even they cannot save it. The best of it is when Jerry,George and Kramer meet up in the apartment, but other than that the rest is just bad, especially the bad acting and forced lines in the theater bit. On my repeat streaming views, I just skip The Puerto Rican Day, The Chronicle and The Finale all together.

Poorest cast and written episode
Woolfy12322 January 2016
There's not much to say except that this is the worst-cast, poorest- written episode of "Seinfeld." All the logic-defying, mind-numbing moments of this episode really detract from the rest of this amazing season of "Seinfeld" (with the exception of "The Dealership"). The ludicrous story lines, the extraordinarily clunky actors playing the extras (i.e., the people under the bleachers with Elaine or the women in the theater) in conjunction with a terrible script really made for a sad penultimate episode of one the best shows on TV. My concerns don't lie within the offenses perceived by the episode, but how the once- skilled writing team of "Seinfeld" went from making hilarious quips and commentaries about everyday issues of life to this.

The Defining Episode of "The Worst of Seinfeld"
Ecupirate4ever14 October 2021
I love Seinfeld. I have the complete set of DVDs, & except for the 1st & last episodes (which I refuse to watch again), I also have every episode saved on my DVR, which requires no small % of my DVR's memory. But this final regular season episode (Puerto Rican Day) I watched only once. I value my time too highly to watch it again. The review that says "worst episode of the entire series" hits the nail on the head. Coincidentally, I believe the 2nd worst episode is the very 1st episode ever made. It's ironic that the funniest series ever made should have as its bookends the worst 2 episodes. But in between these 2 are +/-172 episodes of the most entertaining TV ever created. (I say +/- bcoz the total # depends on how you count the 7 two-part episodes, & anyone familiar with the South Park episode in which the 2 geeks fall out over the precise total # of Star Trek episodes knows how devisive this issue can be, so I simply accept the # shown on this IMDb website: 174.)

A Horror!
beautyjudge2 September 2022
The claim that this show was shown once and only once on network TV because of the flag controversy may be convincing to some, but after watching it again on Netflix, I figured out what may be the real reason they dismissed it...it's horrible. Poorly written, bad acting and most of all, unfunny.

If this was the first episode I ever saw of the series, I wouldn't care to watch any of the other episodes........................................................ ....................................................................... ................................................................................................................................horror!

Yikes
Samuel-Shovel15 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In "The Puerto Rican Day" the gang gets stuck in traffic due to a blocked off area of the city for Puerto Rican Day. Jerry gets into a feud with another car he cut off. Kramer goes to a house showing in the neighborhood in order to use the bathroom. Elaine takes a cab and then tries to escape under the bleachers with a group. George goes to a movie and gets upset when his comedy is upstaged by a heckler with a laser pen. George is soon being followed around the neighborhood by this heckler whose using the laser on George's bald head.

I can see why this one got pulled from many syndication packages. It's not a great look for Puerto Ricans here. The group rioting and destroying Jerry's car puts them in a bad light. Flag burning is also a bit controversial, even by today's standards. There are a lot of issues here that it's probably for the best to just leave this one back in the 90's. None of the jokes are really that good anyways... Although I do enjoy the episodes where they leave the apartment and cafe.
