THE ROUGH DIAMONDS is a decent episode of THE SAINT, with Roger Moore's character feeling more like a proto-Bond than ever. The story is packed with fight scenes and violence, and it's great to see a youthful Geoffrey Palmer popping up as a security driver who encounters some very unpleasant characters. Genre mainstays like George A. Cooper and Douglas Wilmer add to a quality-feeling cast, and the whole thing feels slick and effortless.

With Douglas Wilmer involved. These diamonds should have been the property of a lady.
Never mind Wilmer's and Moore's later reunion in Octopussy.
Alan Uttershaw (Wilmer) is bringing a consignment of industrial diamonds over from Africa for a company. The Saint is on the same plane and he witnesses the handover to security guards at the airport.
Only these are fake guards, they killed the real ones.
Simon Templar gets involved and he believes it is an inside job. It could be the owner of the company, his floozy wife or her leeching boyfriend. What about the other major shareholder of the company or his secretary.
Energetically directed by Peter Yates. There is a lot of plot here and double dealing. Especially as someone is trying to frame the Saint. It is a shame that the final part gives the twist away.
