Simon Templar: Jewel Thief
jimmywhale5 August 2013
"The Lawless Lady" provides much amusement and boasts of some great on-screen chemistry between leading man Roger Moore and beautiful guest star Dawn Addams. This is the second of three guest shots she made on "The Saint" and it's obvious why the producers kept asking her to return.

Here she plays a moneyless Duchess who heads a clandestine ring of jewel thieves. While she entertains the British upper crust, she sends her minions out to rob the homes of those with whom she's partying. Of course, she's attracted to Templar, and enlists him into joining her crew against the wishes of her foremost accomplice who's concealing a jealous streak.

The proceedings are a lot of fun, and Moore is at his charmingly romantic best. The supporting cast is rounded out by a bunch of experts, especially Julian Glover as Moore's rival. But it's not all lightness, and the plot does touch on the seriousness of the crimes and the effect on the innocent.

Sparkling stuff

Warning: Spoilers
THE LAWLESS LADY is a particularly strong episode of THE SAINT, enlivened with wit, energy and repartee between Templar and the ultimate femme fatale in the presence of jewel thief Dawn Addams. Templar ends up going undercover in the gang, which brings him into conflict with a youthful but ever-menacing Julian Glover. It's sparkling stuff, and highly enjoyable.

The Lawless Lady

Warning: Spoilers
Simon Templar is investigating a string of thefts from the well heeled. One robbery has left a night porter dead. He was a friend of The Saint.

Suspicion falls on Countess Audrey Morova (Dawn Addams) and her thuggish driver Hilloram (Julian Glover.)

The Countess invites people to a function such as a party in her house and Hilloram goes off and robs them.

Although you do wonder why the police never figured out a common link about the recent spate of robberies.

All the people who were robbed were with the Countess at the time.

The Saint infiltrates the gang and gains the trust of the Countess. Although Hilloram remains suspicious.

Simon Templar even ropes in Inspector Teal into his plan even though he would prefer to arrest Templar.

The story does delve into The Saint's roots as being a shady character. Hence why Teal would prefer to take him in.

Julian Glover would later reunite with Roger Moore in For Your Eyes Only as a villain.
