Gender bending Roseanne style
AlsExGal30 July 2016
The first "Roseanne" Halloween episode, in season two, was conventional situation comedy blended with Halloween horror. Here, Roseanne pushes the boundaries just a little. Remember, this was way back in 1990 folks.

The Conners' only son, DJ, decides he wants to dress as a witch for Halloween this year, and this has his father, Dan, very upset as he believes it might mean DJ is having trouble with his own gender identity. You see, Dan believes only girls should dress as witches. Meanwhile, Roseanne decides to find out what it's like to be one of the guys by dressing up in Dan's clothes. She then goes to the Lobo and enjoys conversing with a group of men there on a variety of subjects. You even see Roseanne trying to make conversation with "another" man at the urinal. Unfortunately, the restroom scene has been cut from most (if not all) syndicated showings of this episode. We also get another look at Crystal's desperation for male companionship as she shows an interest in Roseanne ( alias Bob) after "Bob" pays her some well placed compliments.

A very creative take on Halloween and highly recommended.

Trick or Treat (#3.7)

Warning: Spoilers
It is Halloween. DJ wants to dress up as a witch which upsets Dan but then he gets OK with it and lets DJ have his broom. Roseanne dresses up as a guy and when stuck at Lobo while waiting for Dan explores being a man in a bar which almost gets her ass kicked.

A perfect Halloween episode. Costumes are awesome, Arnie as Elivis' ghost was great. DJ wanting to be a witch was super cute. I am glad Dan let him have his broom at the end.

The best part though is Roseanne in a bar. She keeps me cracking up at the pool table, and when she talks with a guy at the urinal. The best part is when Crystal starts flirting with her thinking that she is a nice man.

And the ending of Dan coming to defend his "husband" was also great.
