Mark and his girlfriend become entangled in a feud between two old codgers, but the teenagers soon learn that one hermit's bark is worse than his bite when the lonely old man invites them to lunch and allows them to explore his ranch.

Mark and his girlfriend, Lorrie, become entangled in a feud between two old codgers. The teenagers soon learn that the "Hermit" has a bark that's worse than his bite when the old man invites them to lunch and allows them to look for arrowheads on a remote part of his land. The youngsters face dire peril when they become trapped in a pool of quicksand.—David Bassler

Mark and his friend Lorrie are out riding and plan on passing through Old Tony's property. Old Tony is something of a hermit who generally doesn't like people on his property. In fact, just as Mark and Lorrie arrive he's feuding with someone. Tony takes a liking to the young people, however, and gives them a meal. He also lets them search for old arrowheads on his land. When Mark fails to return home Lucas becomes concerned particularly when he learns they may have gone onto a swampy area with quicksand.—garykmcd
