Anachronisms
Although Marilyn Monroe was still married to Arthur Miller in April 1960, he is neither seen nor mentioned.
Al states that "There's only four days until Marilyn's suicide." This episode takes place on 4 April 1960, while Marilyn Monroe, in fact, died on 5 August 1962. This is not a goof, however, because Sam's actions during the episode change history. In the episode's original time line, Marilyn died at Peter Lawford's party. Sam revives her and convinces her to make one last movie (The Misfits (1961)), delaying her death to the historically accurate date.
Marilyn Monroe's birth name was Norma Jean Mortensen, yet here she refers to herself as Norma Jean Baker. Monroe's mother, Gladys Baker, was still legally married to Martin Edward Mortensen at the time of Marilyn's birth (which accounts for the name on her birth certificate), they he and Gladys had separated over two years earlier. Gladys had been married to Jasper Newton Baker and that is the name she used for Marilyn and that Marilyn grew up with.
When Barbara is trying out for Marilyn's role, John Tremaine Jr. says, "If Marilyn can't pull herself together, maybe we can get Liz." Huston tells him to call her agent. Tremaine isn't referring to Liz Vassey, the actress playing Barbara Whitmore, but to Elizabeth Taylor.
When resuscitating Marilyn at Peter Lawford's party, Sam performs CPR with Marilyn on the bed. This is an ineffective method of CPR, as it should be done on a hard, flat surface. Sam, being a medical doctor should know this. However, as a doctor, Sam also would recognize the need to immediately start CPR without wasting time to move the person to a different surface.
When Sam wakes up a hungover Marilyn, he pulls the sheets off her, and she rolls onto her back. It's implied she's naked, and she asks him, "Why aren't you turning away?" At the very edge of the frame, a black strapless bra can be seen.
At the beginning as Sam and Marilyn are driving down the street, just ready to make a turn, cars of much later vintage are seen in the background including a Porsche of 1980s vintage.
Barbara Whitmore claims to have seen all of Marilyn Monroe's films, from Dangerous Years (1947) to Let's Make Love (1960). This is impossible, as Let's Make Love (1960) was released on 8 September 1960, whereas Sam leaps into 4 April.
The storyline is set in April 1960. Green Onions is being played at the party at Peter Lawford's house, but it wasn't recorded until 1962.
Although the scene is set on April 4, 1960, Marilyn's car is a 1962 Lincoln Continental.
Although Marilyn Monroe was still married to Arthur Miller in April 1960, he is neither seen nor mentioned.
Previously stated to be an erroneous report of a goof, there really is an anachronism with Al saying that there were only four more days until Marilyn Monroe's death and the completion of The Misfits (1961). (At around 33 mins) Al says that in the original time line, Marilyn did complete the picture, referring to the new one. That couldn't be done in four days. If, in the original time line, she died at Lawford's party, she also would not have completed the new picture.
