Gus Dalgran has been acting strangely and his business is suffering from someone embezzling. As things spiral out of his control, his nephew decides to have him declared incompetent. When the nephew is murdered, Gus is charged.

August "Gus" Dalgran has been acting very odd lately. He seems to be losing lucidity and his business partners are particularly concerned when he refuses to liquidate a parcel of land they sorely need to sell to deal with the company's liquidity problem. When he throws a handful of cash out of his high-rise office window, he's charged with a misdemeanor and refuses to accept any advice from his long-time attorney Perry Mason. Perry, at the request of a friend, attends the court hearing anyway and sees his odd behavior first-hand. It leads Gus' nephew, Kenneth Dalgran, to petition for a competency hearing but Perry isn't buying any of it and can't quite figure what his friend and client is up to.
