Pat Morita and Al Molinaro will both go on to be the owner of Arnold's Drive-In teen hangout for most of the characters in Happy Days (1974).
Pat Morita's character, restaurant owner Mr. Yamada, explains to Oscar Madison (Jack Klugman) that his restaurant is popular with college students because they believe it's "hip to eat Nip." During his days as a stand-up comic Morita billed himself as "The Hip Nip".
A bit of risque humor inserted into the script: Oscar notes in the Japanese restaurant that the old man cook (who ran out holding an uncooked chicken) was "choking a chicken." That expression (along with choking your chicken) is slang for male masturbation.
Pat Morita's character is listed as Mr Wing in credits. Wing is a Chinese name not Japanese. He is called a Mr Yamada in show, it may be possible the mistake of using Wing for Japanese was discovered but not changed in Credits.
Final appearance of H.W. Gim.
