Sean must operate on a morbidly obese woman as he searches for a new partner.

In a dream sequence, Christian is found bled to death with his throat slit and Sean and Julia make funerary speeches. Sean tells Christian the only way to get over it is to return to work, but Christian is adrift. He can't concentrate, on surgery nor even sex. Julia is happy with her gorgeous, bright younger lover, Jude Sawyer, but he's eager for more, so she asks Sean for a divorce. Christian proposes to Kimber Henry, who rejects him in his non-predatory state. Sean can't keep rescheduling clients, and decides the business needs another partner, so he alone signs a six month contract with Dr. Quentin Costa, and Christian is initially against.
