- A temporary black-out at a recording studio leaves Jessica in the dark when the wealthy soon-to-be-owner is stabbed to death.
- Jessica is recording one of her murder stories on a tape for the blind in the Red River Studios at night, when director Randy Witworth allows it as a favor to producer Greg Dalton, whom he blinded in a car accident. During one of a recent series of mysterious power cuts interrupting recording sessions, Randy is fatally stabbed in the back with a steak-knife from the Dalton kitchen. Police lieutenant Faraday considers mystery writing a harmless hobby for useless women who should leave real sleuthing to men. Still, she manages to follow and inspire the investigation, convinced Greg was framed. Randy was worrying about bootleg tapes as a risk to nullify his contract with star Stoney Carmichael. His widow, Margaret, is hardly grieving, but already doing business with Carl Anglin, who immediately pulls the plug on the mystery tapes.—KGF Vissers
- Jessica is working in a professional recording studio recording one of her books. Her producer is Greg Dalton, who is now blind and very much supports the initiative despite it losing money. Studio director Randy Whitworth doesn't quite see it that way. The studio has been having a number of power outages, of late, and during the most recent one, Whitworth is stabbed in the back. The police immediately suspect Greg who, despite his loss of sight, has shown he's quite able to get around without any assistance. Jessica suspects someone else is guilty of the crime and that it may have something to do with bootleg cassette music tapes.—garykmcd
