Broadcast no. 37 (Oct 9 1967), "Art for Monkees' Sake" was 34th in production (filmed Apr 12-14), marking it as the debut episode for Monty Landis, who totaled seven in all the second season. Making his third and final appearance on the show is Vic Tayback, with he and Landis a pair of crooked museum guards who count on Peter's newfound artistic abilities to duplicate 'The Laughing Cavalier,' so they can sell the original and take a European vacation. A surprise uncredited cameo is supplied by Liberace, doing unexpected things to a piano, following his ratings success on BATMAN. Apart from a second showing for Micky's "Randy Scouse Git," we get the debut of The Monkees' fifth single, "Daydream Believer," which would not be issued until two weeks after this telecast, even before the PISCES LP's Nov 14 release. Composed by John Stewart of The Modern Folk Quartet, its June 14 recording featured Tork's piano and Nesmith's 12-string guitar, making it the last single to feature any Monkees playing, and their last no. 1 hit.
