Edmond O'Brien and Roy Engel acted together in the film "D.O.A. (1949)". O'Brien played the protagonist Frank Bigelow, and Engel played the police captain.
The $1000 bills that character "Raymond Halder" uses to bribe James Phelps and Rollin Hand were still in circulation in America when this show aired in 1968. But one year later, in 1969, the United States Department of the Treasury recalled all $1000 bills. The banks turned them over to the Federal Reserve System; they were subsequently destroyed.
Today, most existing $1000 notes are in the hands of private numismatic dealers and collectors. They command very high prices at auctions, and on auction websites.
Edmund O'Brien was quite ill during filming, and was incapable of remembering more than one line at a time. Since he is supposed to be ill during most of the show due to an IMF ploy, his problems are not readily evident.
When Halder measured his blood pressure with a sphygmomanometer, the reading was 250/101. The larger number or systolic pressure, measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats. The smaller number is the diastolic pressure when the arteries are at rest. Ideally, the larger number should be between 120-140 mm Hg (Mercury) , and the smaller number between 60-100 mm Hg, in other words the reading is high.
When Jim is in Halder's office, he says that he makes $142.50 per week working for the government. In 2023 money, this would translate to an annual salary of a little over $65,000. Likewise, the $5000 Rollin demands from Cinnamon as a bribe would translate to a little under $44,000.
