Barnaby and Scott are conversing while driving down the road. The first shot shows Scott's Rover 45 (plate BX03 ZZG) with Scott at the wheel and Barnaby in the passenger seat. The next shot shows Barnaby driving! As the conversation ends, they pull up in Barnaby's Rover 75 (BU03 AHA).
In the opening sequence, a burglar enters the house of a dead man and takes a laptop computer, removing LapLink and USB connectors in the process. When the detectives arrive, the USB cable has swapped ends. The "B" end, which cannot be plugged into a computer, is now lying on the coffee table. Also, neither of the cables can work with the HP LaserJet 6L printer next to the missing laptop.
When Jezabel arrives at The Quill for the first time and starts autographing books, she does so with her right hand. She is supposed to be left-handed in the story line
Dr. Bullard discovers the murder weapon just inches from Jezebel Tripp's body. The same murder weapon is noticeably absent from the first close-up shot showing the body.
Jezebel Tripp and Camilla Poltova are both left-handed, but when Jezebel signs DS Scott's autograph book, the movement of her hand obviously does not match what she says she wrote, "Darling Danny, love Jezebel". It looks more like three large circles. Later, when Camilla writes something down, the movement of her hand is also unnatural to a left-handed writer.
The mock-up for the Causton Gazette's web site contains a typo: it reads "Welcome to the Cuaston Gazette Archive Search."
