Somebody Out There Likes Me
Prismark1011 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When Chrissy gets flowers and later chocolates from a secret admirer.

She yearns to find out who this admirer might be. Chrissy even rings a few old boyfriends.

Bernard answers and he is keen to rekindle an old flame even though he is now married with twins.

Meanwhile Mildred attempts to make George jealous by making out that she has a secret admirer.

Apparently the admirer turns out to be someone who is a bit shy to talk to Chrissy directly, especially as she is always in the pub with a scruffy bloke.

The twist being that the admirer confuses Jo for Chrissy.

Some deft acting and comic timing from Richard O'Sullivan. He even does an impression of Quasimodo.

Send it with flowers!

Warning: Spoilers
Flowers turn up at the flat, addressed to Chrissy and from 'an unknown admirer'. Then chocolates arrive, also bearing the same cryptic inscription. Speculation runs rife as to the identity of the sender. Larry? Flowers and chocolates are not his style. Chrissy phones old boyfriend Bernard ( Colin McCormack ), but as he is now married with children it seems unlikely to be him.

Chrissy donates the items to Mrs.Roper, who teases her husband into thinking they are for her. When Bernard comes calling in an effort to rekindle his romance with Chrissy, Roper angrily confronts him...

Sally Thomsett upstages her fellow cast members here by wearing a strange dress that looks like it started life as a set of curtains. A good episode, even though its another Larry free zone. The sender turns out to be the nerdy Alan, played by Christopher Chittell, better known these days as 'Erc Pollard' from 'Emmerdale'. In a nice twist, it turns out he sent the gifts to the wrong person - they were meant for Jo.

Colin McCormack appeared ( as different characters ) in two earlier stories - 'Its Only Money' from Season 1 and 'When The Cat's Away' from Season 2.

Funniest moment - an angry Roper returning home after a darts match at the British Legion. "The bloke who did the scoring has got it in for me!", he fumes. Mildred replies: "I'm not surprised. Your dart hit his hand at least twice!".
