This was the third appearance of Jack Dalton (Bruce McGill) on the show and the first of Murdoc, the arch nemesis of MacGyver.
The controlled explosive "implosion" footage was from the Henry Grady Hotel demolition in Atlanta,Georgia in 1972. The art of dropping tall buildings straight down in crowded areas has actually been around since 1910.
Murdoc's crushing the taxicab with the forklift is predicted by Carrie Linden, the deaf teacher in a previous MacGyver episode "Silent World", when during her nightmare about the "phantom car of death", she also briefly dreams about the terrifying approach of a ponderous towering forklift.
The two guys used the LAWs (bazookas) incorrectly. When the weapon is fired, the ignition of the propellant produces a significant "backblast" which would be detrimental in a confined area, like the inside of a van. The two operators themselves would have been severely injured and they should have known not to do it that way.
This is, in part, a flashback episode to where Pete and MacGyver met seven years prior. Pete is wearing a toupee to reflect the time change, yet MacGyver is still sporting his light-colored mullet from Season 2, when in Season 1 his hair was darker, shorter, and neatly combed, presuming his hair would've looked similar to that in the past
