Aimee Eccles and Morgan Woodward
kevinolzak5 July 2010
Another excellent early episode depicts the struggle between the Chinese miners who claim a gold strike, and the landowner hell bent on keeping the riches for himself. The distinguished Morgan Woodward, who twice appeared on STAR TREK, plays the wealthy Colonel Binns, whose youngest son David (Richard Hatch) is in love with the Chinese girl Cloud Shadow (Aimee Eccles), who quits her job as the Binns maid to join the miners on their mountain (she prefers marriage to being a 'pillow girl'). Among the miners is Ying (John Fujioka), who journeys to town to pay their food bill, waylaid and shot dead by the Colonel's eldest son, Douglas (Dennis Lee Smith), witnessed by Caine, who must try to prevent more killings while facing opposition from a Manchu Karate Master (Bill M.Ryusaki),in one of the series' few actual Kung Fu combats. Aimee Eccles is perhaps best known for her Native American role as one of Dustin Hoffman's wives in 1970's "Little Big Man." Morgan Woodward would return as a vicious killer in "The Nature of Evil," during the second season. Richard Hatch would later be cast as Number One Grandson in 1980's "Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen." Soon-Tek Oh debuts here, appearing in two further episodes, Clyde Kusatsu would show up in three more episodes, John Fujioka in three more, Yuki Shimoda in five more, Tad Horino in six more.
