The season premiere was promoted with a mystery of which character (between Hank, Luanne, Buckley, and Chuck Mangione) died in the season finale, when the Mega-Lo-Mart exploded. TV Guide ran a front cover with the headline "WHO WILL SURVIVE?" with each of the four characters whose fates remained unknown.
This episode was originally supposed to air on September 8, 1998. However, it was bumped back a week when it was preempted by Fox's coverage of Mark McGwire's historic, record-breaking 62nd home run.
FOX moved the show to Tuesday nights for its 3rd season, gambling that its huge success on Sunday nights would enable the network to establish a stronger base on a night they'd had problems with. However, much of the audience didn't follow King of the Hill to the new night; while the show would run for a decade after this, and eventually return to Sunday nights, it never came close to its Season 2 ratings peak again.
