Heroic Harm and Meg face devious Alison
hindsonevansmike7 July 2021
Harm and Meg - maybe for the only time in Season One - get to try a case in the courtroom.

Alison Krennick makes her first appearance (she would become a staple part of the cast in the second half of Season One). She prosecutes Tom Boone robustly and we learn about military ops and "the political expedient".

Harm the hero gets to play Action Man and all ends well.

"Defensive Action"

Finally, JAG lawyers Harmon Rabb and Meg Austin are in a courtroom trying a proper case. It's a high-stakes one, too: after US pilots go down over Serbia, CAG Thomas Boone (Terry O'Quinn, back for another episode) is court-martialled in Naples, as the Serbians threaten to tear up the peace treaty.

Prosecuting is Commander Allison Krennick (Andrea Thompson, later of NYPD Blue fame) who is a legend amongst JAG lawyers, according to Harm. She is a lawyer who will try any way to get the result she is after, and clearly has the State Department on her back for a conviction of Boone, who maintains his fighters were shot at before returning fire, so they can defuse the situation and prevent a war.

(Krennick, well portrayed by Thompson, will return in subsequent episodes this season, and a couple in later seasons, too.)

Whilst most of the episode takes place in a courtroom (with a little on the USS Seahawk of first episode fame), Harm still gets to do what he does so often in the only NBC series of JAG: go into the field like he's a SEAL or something.
