- Life is anything but serene in cupcake Connecticut, when Lucy becomes fast friends with her new neighbor, Betty Ramsey.
- Lucy sings the praises of neighbor and new pal, Betty Ramsey, but Ricky warns her not to get too friendly too fast. When Betty tells Lucy that she can get her a great deal on some new furniture, Lucy begs Ricky and he reluctantly consents -- she can spend $500 and no more. Betty takes charge and before their shopping expedition is over, Lucy has purchased an entire household of expensive furniture and spent '3272.75 cents!' A very nervous Lucy phones the Mertzes in New York for support and urges them to catch the next train in preparation for Ricky's return. He is livid and demands the return of every piece, putting Lucy in a tight spot. Betty is insulted at Lucy's suggestion. Ricky tries to have a 'man to man' talk with husband, Ralph Ramsey, but tempers flare. The Mertzes explain to the Ramseys that the Ricardos just can't afford this hefty purchase and the Ramseys are very understanding. Ultimately, through a stroke of luck, Lucy's new and beautiful Colonial furniture will remain in her lovely Colonial home.—gaelicguy
- Lucy wants to buy all new furniture to go with their new house, but Ricky says they can't afford it. After much wheedling on her part, he agrees that she can spend a small amount. Betty Ramsey, their neighbor, knows where they can get a discount. Ricky warns Lucy not to get too friendly with the neighbors right away but she ignores him.
Lucy is thrilled with the prices at the furniture showroom. After helping her select the items, Betty points out that the tags on the pieces are not price tags but stock numbers. Lucy is horrified at her mistake but too embarrassed to tell Betty that she can't afford to spend much. The total cost is several thousand dollars.
Once the new furniture is delivered, Lucy tells Betty that it really isn't what she had in mind. Betty is offended and thinks Lucy doesn't like her taste. Betty's husband Ralph had warned her not to get too chummy with the new neighbors and now Betty sees why. She leaves in a huff and Lucy telephones Ethel for help. The Mertzes take the first train to Connecticut and arrive just after Ricky confronts Lucy. He says the new furniture must all go back. Little Ricky gets into a fist fight when the Ramseys' son Bruce. Ricky and Ralph Ramsey also get into a scuffle. Ethel saves the day by telling the Ramseys that the Ricardos simply can't afford all the new furniture. Betty asks why Lucy hadn't said so earlier. She well understands, as Ralph won't let her redecorate their home for the same reason.
Ralph offers Ricky a guest spot on his new show and the fee will just about cover the cost of the furniture.
