Stalker and spy like bad guy wants to kill the bad guys for Hunter!

This episode "The Avenging Angel" from season 1 of "Hunter" which first aired on Jan. 18, 1985 is a highly memorable one as I remember watching it as a kid on Saturday night on my local "NBC" station with dad. The plot is a little crazy, complex, weird, and creepy. Det. Rick Hunter(Fred Dryer) is called to testify against a doctor who's believed to have put a hit and murder out on his wife, and the mob might just be involved. Things twist and get strange when witnesses and bad guys start to turn up dead. And you the viewer see that Hunter is being followed and recorded, as it's soon found out that a technical and surveillance like expert is on the prowl and he has a bad taste for bad guys as when the courts don't give proper justice it's like revenge is his the old fashioned way of eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth! As it's like Hunter's job is being done in vigilance style. The guy is soon given the nickname "The Avenging Angel" and his games are clever cat and mouse style as his calls and recordings are voice changers that lead to traps. Most memorable and notable from this episode is that Sgt. Det. Dee Dee McCall(Stepfanie Kramer who when I first saw as a young boy thought she was so beautiful and I had a crush on!) is kidnapped and abducted by Rick's strange crazy obsessed admirer and McCall has a damsel in distress scene as she is tied up and gagged! Overall well done entertaining episode one of the earliest and first season's best and one of the most remembered from the series that involved a crazy bad guy criminal and the scene of Kramer tied up and gagged long stands in memory.

    The Avenging Angel

Hunter is being out vigilanted by a surveillance expert.

He is obsessed with Hunter and his methods. He gives Hunter an anonymous tip about a man who killed his wife.

When the man walks from his court case, he later kills the accused and the witness who changed his testimony at trial.

Later he kidnaps McCall when Hunter disapproves of his actions.

The surveillance expert must have learned his trade from the Gene Hackman character in The Conversation.

Another episode where Hunter is a babe magnet. This time the prosecuting attorney has the hots for him.

    • Trivia
Nancy Stafford plays a defense attorney. This episode airs two years before she begins her five-year run as defense attorney Michelle Thomas on Matlock (1986).
    • Goofs
When Hunter and McCall are leaving the courthouse and walking back to his car, you can clearly see McCall is wearing blue high-heeled shoes. Later on, when "The Rat" knocks her down as he is trying to get away, she is wearing the same outfit but her shoes are now black.
