Hanging on to Youth
Hitchcoc20 September 2017
This is pretty funny. First one must look at the ethereal nature of slang. A couple of kids are in the first part. They may as well have lived during the Civil War. Their running commentary is hilarious. I'm sure current slang will be every bit as dated. The kids remind Alice of her fleeting youth and she tells Ralph that she misses doing things they used to do. The main part of the episode takes place at a roller-skating rink where Jackie Gleason shows off his wonderful comedic versatility. He is dressed like a 1920's college student. It's hilarious from beginning to end. There is a nice message built into it as well. Everything is so dated, but it doesn't matter. I was a little kid in 1955 and remember how some of the older kids acted. One character is Ronnie Burns. He was a TV fixture at this time.

First scene is hard to watch
filmnoirfan1000-0132925 July 2021
The opening scene with the 1950s youth is painful to watch in 2021. The ice skating scene is the highlight of the show and Kramden's acting during this is perfect.

Ralph Turns Cool Dude
dougdoepke11 May 2017
Much of the humor in this episode is physical. Watching Ed and Ralph learning to be cool guys by doing the Hucklebuck is a hoot. If that's not enough, seeing our favorite fat guy learning to roller skate shows off his athletic skills in an amusingly awkward way. Seems a couple of hipster teens makes Alice want to recapture some of the fun she and Ralph used to have. Finally Ralph's shamed into a night on the town. At the same time, the two kids' teen lingo provides nostalgia for some of us geezers. All in all, it's a typical half hour of classic Kramden comedy, but be sure to hide your eyes when Ralph appears in his fancy on-the-town duds.
