Ralph's complaint that the shoemaker should pay less attention to the grand opera is probably a reference to Gino Prato, a Bronx shoemaker who won $32,000 answering questions on opera.
INSIDE JOKE: The name of the Traffic Court judge who presents Ralph with a safety award for accident-free driving is "Lawrence Norton Hurdle". Jack Hurdle is one of the show's producers and an old friend of Jackie Gleason.
One of the rare times Ed Norton is seen wearing something other than his usual outfit of white T-shirt and vest or Raccoon lodge uniform.
The "friends choose identical outfits for a big event" routine was used three years earlier, in Lucy and Ethel Buy the Same Dress (1953).
This was both Frank Marth's and George Petrie's final role in the original 39 shows as members of Jackie Gleason's "stock company".
