Horrible Dresses
Hitchcoc23 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Ralph has been a bus driver for fourteen years without an accident. He is to receive a safety award from the city. His name and picture will appear in a magazine, he will meet the mayor, and be honored by his peers. Of course, he's a wreck. On the day of the award he is involved in a fender bender with his car. The women get in a big fight over two of the ugliest dresses I've ever seen. And, of course, Norton is a pain in the butt. The interesting thing is that there is a unique twist at the end, involving the man whose car he hit. We are so used to unhappiness for Ralph that when things work out, it is a pleasant surprise. For once, the big guy gets a little love.

Ralph Gets An Award or Does He

Ralph gets to puff out again, this time as winner of the bus co.'s safe driver of the year award. He's even getting his picture taken for a magazine, and also getting to meet with city muckey-mucks. So you can imagine. But then Alice and Trixie get dressed up for the big occasion. Trouble is they're wearing the same outfit, and neither wants to change. Oh my, is this going to ruin Ralph's big occasion. (Check out the girls' monster bow ties—they may swallow heads!) Worse, guess what happens when Ralph gets a buddy's car to go to the ceremony. Maybe you can guess, but now he's in big trouble. So what will happen to the award.

It's a typically funny installment, though I wouldn't think top-notch. Also, the cast is larger than usual, along with more scene changes. Note presence of cast regulars Frank Marth (the reporter) and George Petrie (Freddie Muller) in supporting roles. All in all, the 30-minutes is good for the usual Gleason laughs, along with a nice twist.
