He's Got a BIIIIG Mouth!!!
Hitchcoc15 September 2017
Once again, Ralph goes overboard in his self promotion. He hasn't the slightest knowledge of golf, but ends up with a date to play with his boss. The scenes as Norton tries to teach him the game (knowing nothing himself) are about as funny as anything ever put on television. Addressing the ball, relaxing for the swing, and so on are a hoot. What amazing chemistry there was between these two guys. Alice is the taciturn, long suffering wife who has complete control in every setting. She has to be strong because her guy is beyond help. If you've never seen this, don't miss it.

Classic Episode

Classic episode, clips of which often turn up in retrospectives. Ralph aims to get a promotion by buddying up with one of his supervisors. Trouble is the boss plays golf and Ralph's big mouth boasts what a great golfer his lowly bus driver is. Now Ralph's stuck with a golf date with the boss, and of course knows nothing about how to play the game. So now he's got a week to learn, and guess who comes downstairs to help.

Catch that golfing outfit Ralph dons to practice in—the checks and stripes are loud enough to stop traffic on a foggy night. And, hugging his bulky frame, the outfit's even big enough to block the traffic. I love it when he and Norton practice a golf swing that looks more like a batter swinging the bat-- Alice better hide her breakables. And how about Norton's understanding of the instruction manual when it instructs the golfer to first "address the ball". It's a hoot.

Anyway, the entry's definitely a classic, and really shows off the guys' natural athletic abilities even if they spoof them. Apparently, Gleason in real life was a first-rate golfer, so probably had fun here aping the game. I know I did, just watching.
