Clap On, Blow Up.
ExplorerDS67893 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
One morning finds Tim extremely bored, so he decided to soup up the garbage disposal. Very useful, if you want to turn corn cobs into dust in seconds. After that, he heads down to Harry's to get a spark plug for the motor, when who should come lumbering in but Benny the moocher. He's looking for someone to lend him a space heater for his new residence. There's a gas leak in the furnace. Turns out it's his aunt's house and she foolishly let him crash there while she's down in Florida. Hearing about the gas leak, Tim suggests he and the Tool Time crew film a live show at the house and fix it for him. At first Benny was reluctant to have Tim working on his house, but when learns it's free, he's all for it. Well, the show was a success for the most part. Benny got to sit out front, scarfing down donuts while Tim and Al did the work in the basement, and Tim proves he knows very little about gas furnaces. So they fix the leak, turn the gas back on and pack it in. But as they're getting ready to leave, a neighbor from the across the street happens by and mentions there being a gas leak in the stove as well...a detail Benny failed to disclose. Fortunately, the only appliance still plugged in was a clap-on lamp, and just at that moment, Tim predictably claps his hands to get Al to hustle up... KABOOM! The house is engulfed in flames.

Now what? Well, being the saint that he is, Tim agreed to let Benny stay with him for a while. Was he thankful? Not really, he just kept blaming Tim for blowing up his house. Well, as expected, Benny Baroni is the house-guest from Hell. He eats all the food, ties up the phone, loafs around the house. The only one who seemed to tolerate him is Mark, who calls him Uncle Benny, and says that when he's older, Benny would take him to Vegas and "get him comped." The family quickly becomes fed up, but Benny had nowhere else to go, as nobody would take him, and it would take Tim and Al weeks to repair the house. However, after a genius idea from Wilson, Tim decides to get the whole gang together to do the job. So from sun up to sun down, the Taylors, Wilson, Al, Heidi and Harry worked making the Baroni house good as new, while the loafer just sat around and watched. Finally, after twelve hours of painting, rewiring, putting up drywall and carpeting, the house was finished. Benny thanked them by asking for a different coat of paint. He'll never learn. And to celebrate their victory, Tim starts up his garbage disposal and shreds a tree branch.

Stay tuned during the credits for a montage of Tim denying the blowing up of Benny's house, and truth to tell, it really wasn't his fault. Sure, he's the one who clapped, turning on the lamp, but how was he to know? The true culprit is Benny for neglecting to unplug the lamp. The character of Benny has received very little characterization on this show, apart from being the freeloading slob everybody puts up with. The only time he seemed to show remorse for any of his actions is the Season 6 Thanksgiving episode. He represents that one guy we all know who mooches his way through life and finds a sleazy way to get what he wants. The one I felt sorry for the most was Benny's unseen aunt. How horrible would that be if your own nephew blew up your house while you were on vacation? Thankfully Benny's got friends like Tim and co. to step in and clean up his mess. Sure, they did it just to get rid of him, but it was a terrific gesture nonetheless. Home Improvements fans have GOT to check this one out. Made very well from start to finish.

Hate Benny

Warning: Spoilers
How did he leave out the gas is off for a reason, why wouldn't Tim, Al and Heidi go do renovations in Benny's Aunt's house without talking to the actual owner of the house and not some loser who doesn't know anything. The Episode is irritating its Bennys fault not Tim why should his family suffer. I love this show I just don't see why Benny was brought in at so many points the brother in law to tims weasel boss ends up getting washed in the Man's Kitchen and another time delivering something to the Taylor house. It's Bennys fault the entire time Again your contact the OWNER of the home hit the sloppy nephew who may or may not be living there without her knowledge. If I were the Aunt if sue Benny and tool time for neglect. Gas is important.
