The Germans did have radio-controlled "mini-tanks" which were essentially boxes with tank tracks that carried explosives capable of destroying a tank or some defensive positions. The Goliath tracked mine - complete German name: Leichter Ladungsträger Goliath (Goliath Light Charge Carrier) - was a name given to two German Unmanned ground vehicles.
At the end when the tank crashes into the staff car, the same wreckage scene will be used again in Bombsight (1969).
Hogan asks Kinchloe to take a memo regarding a beautification contest to be sent to Klink. Hogan asks for suggestions on who should sign it. Newkirk suggests 'General Nuisance'; so Hogan tells Kinchloe to have the memo signed by General von Nuisance,
of the German P.O.W. Administration.
The title is from the song "Thanks for the Memory" composed by Ralph Rainger, with lyrics by Leo Robin and was introduced in The Big Broadcast of 1938 (1938) by Bob Hope and Shirley Ross eventually becoming Bob Hope 's theme song.
The three prisoners that do the signaling, including the one who says 'Geronimo', are not included in the credits.
