    Highlander versus the Tongs

Duncan has agreed to lend the dojo for the shooting of a film starring Jimmy Sang, an old friend of Charlie's. But not only does Jimmy have an attitude problem but he's been sentenced to death by his old employer, Tong leader Johnny Leung.

It's a Charlie episode, so Duncan's back fighting human criminals. This is actually quite fun if viewed in a certain light. It struggles really hard to fit the Highlander tropes in: We get two barely-relevant flashbacks, one a flashback to a flashback from Family Tree, the other to yet another tragedy Duncan's haunted by. And the episode jumps through hoops to include a sword fight between Duncan and Jimmy.

Still, the guest cast are decently engaging and Duncan gets a nice line in quips. The scenes with a mortal Buddhist monk who is apparently an old friend of Duncan's don't really have much to do with the plot but they add a nice layer to it. Even the finale, with a laughably slow death trap, is suitably exciting.

Neither Richie nor Joe appears in this episode: Richie will be back in Epitaph for Tommy and Joe in Under Colour of Authority.

    • Goofs
When Johnny Leung spins the cylinder of the revolver, points it at Macleod and cocks it, the camera is angled so you can clearly see the chamber with the bullet lining up with the barrel in position to be fired. Despite this, when he pulls the trigger, the hammer drops on an empty chamber. It's shown that the bullet isn't a dud when Macleod successfully shoots the vase with it.

Duncan MacLeod: I once heard it said that fear was to warn us of a danger, not make us afraid of it.
