Wally Cox Ruins It
kgraovac22 December 2023
The Unique Employment Agency is hired by an eccentric rich old lady to have someone cut her priceless diamond into four pieces.

This is not a very good episode. I am not a fan of Wally Cox at all, but this is one of his worst appearances. He plays the German diamond cutter who tries to complete the task in Lucy's living room and the same stupid gag is repeated THREE TIMES, with him injuring his arm and jumping up and down on the sofa. None of it is funny.

The script mentions a termite problem that Lucy is having, but this goes nowhere. Also, when Harry is heard conversing with Ruth McDevitt's character on the phone, we assume she is a no-nonsense-type woman (Mary Wickes makes a fake-out entrance so we think it is SHE who is playing the rich Mrs. Whitmark). But when Ruth arrives at the office, she is played as a daffy old bat who has a weird fascination with string, loose threads and used teabags. WHAT??? Well, at least that was original. Weird -- but unique.

Mary Wickes has a fun bit where she is trigger-happy with disinfectant because Mrs. Whitmark is a germaphobe. Later, Wickes calls Uncle Harry "sterile" and gets a big audience reaction. The final sight gag is good, but nothing we haven't already seen on this or THE LUCY SHOW.

Ultimately, this would have been better without Wally Cox in it. 5/10.
