    Clarabelle Without Makeup

Richie needs a scoop for his school paper and wants to get an interview with Howdy Doody and Buffalo Bob Smith.

One of Season 2's funniest. Richie gets access to the Howdy Doody show when Joanie appears on the show. Richie gets the idea for huge story when he thinks of getting a photo of Clarabelle the clown without his makeup. Potsie gets a photo of Clarabelle with his pants down but still has his makeup. Another funny scene has Richie entering a Howdy Doody look a like contest. See the episode to find out if we get to see the clown without the makeup.

    • Trivia
Clarabell was played mainly by three different actors through the years (others sometimes doubled as Clarabell, to allow them to play other characters). Robert Keeshan originated the role, but left the show to star in Captain Kangaroo (1955); Bobby Nicholson continued the role until Lew Anderson took over in 1954, and he carried the role from then on. Richie's goal was thus to unmask Anderson as Clarabell.
