A young wife miscarries when Doc Adams must tend to a wounded killer instead of making a house call. The killer will probably hang, because Doc's witness to his murdering a local card-player celebrating winning a big pot. As the only physician in the area, Doc's over-committed, but the young woman's husband, a short-sighted farmer with a bad temper, can't accept the loss.—David Stevens

THIS SYNOPSIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. As Doc Adams prepares to leave to deliver Sara Butler's baby, Matt seriously wounds a vicious killer, Garth, who is taken to Doc's office for emergency surgery. To some this seems like a fool's errand, since Garth will doubtless be hanged if he survives the wound. Although Sara's impending childbirth is troublesome, Doc must deal with the patient at hand before he can leave town. This dilemma leads to a tragic loss of life, and Sara's husband, hotheaded Tom Butler, swears revenge on Doc.
