Ross and Chandler fight over a joke
Lady_Targaryen8 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Ross tell the Friends that he invented a joke and sent to Playboy, where they printed. Everybody sees the joke, but Chandler says that he was the one who invented the joke.

Both Ross and Chandler stay fighting in the episode just to prove to each other that each one of them invented the joke.

Joey starts to work in Central Perk with Gunther. He stays ashamed to tell this new to the Friends, specially because not so long time ago, he was a star raising, and this is a decline in his career. Since when Janine moved, the bills are too expensive to Joey pay alone. Chandler wants to help him with the money, since Joey didn't pay many of basic services like water and energy.

Monica,Rachel and Phoebe are looking to a Playboy magazine and Monica asks who Phoebe and Rachel would date of them 3. Phoebe chooses Rachel, and Monica stays angry with her decision. Phoebe admits to Monica that she picked Rachel because Monica isn't easygoing, while Rachel is easy to convince. It is not necessary to say that they all end up fighting.

The One with the Joke

Warning: Spoilers
The best part of this episode is Phoebe choosing Rachel over Monica. "High maintenance" is actually the nicest one can call Monica. It is surprising Phoebe was too nice. And Monica once again abused Chandler by forcing him to say nice things about her. I was kind of surprised about how Phoebe described Rachel. I never thought of her as a "push over". And I also loved how at the end Chandler chose Joey

Chandler and Ross fighting over the joke had its funny moments. I actually would like to hear that joke!

Joey working in Central Perk was pretty boring, besides the beginning with Ross

Difficult episode to rate

It's not great by any means, but not a lot of detractors.

I usually start off at 7 and then either go up or down from there.

But...lot of later friends episode, I almost feel like they start off at 6 and have to earn something in order to get to 7.

But I'm in a generous mood.

7 is fine.

Joke In Playboy, High-Maintenance and Pushover
vivianla20 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ross shows off the fact that he got a joke about a doctor being a monkey published in Playboy. Chandler says that was his joke, he was the creator. No names have been published so Ross says it doesn't matter but they each try to get to tell their acquaintances first.

The girls look through the Playboy magazine and talk about who they would date. Phoebe says oh remember going into the barn with your skirt hiked up and bending over?

Rachel brings up the question of which one of us would you date? Phoebe picks Rachel, offending Mon. Phoebe explains later that Monica is high-maintenance and Rachel is a pushover, offending both of them.

We see examples of them being their supposed traits. Monica doesn't want to eat sushi and makes it clear so. Rachel is easygoing and goes with it. At the end of the episode, Phoebe tells Rachel she is in her spot and Rachel immediately moves to the side table.

I always like this episode, I think all three of the stories work, and there are some nice lines/moments along the way too.

Good stuff.

The One Where Everyone Discovers Their True Selves
cielo1722 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This hilarious episode of Friends brilliantly captures the laughs and heart of the show through arguments over jokes, professional setbacks turned personal triumphs, and insights into the depths of care these friends always share.

Ross's pride in Playboy magazine's published joke backfires when Chandler claims it as his own, sparking a comedic feud as only they could have. Their good-natured ribbing provides the perfect showcase for the wit and rapport of their friendship.

Phoebe navigates the rocky road of female relationships with her customary wisdom and one-liners, finding the sympathy of a sister in Rachel through jabs that mask affection truer than truth.

Caught between bills and auditions, Joey's decision to keep his serving job under wraps leads to the loss and gain of work in a heartbeat, yet never a moment of doubt in the support his found family always offers.

Overall, "The One with the Joke" brilliantly captures the heart of Friends in each laugh that lights the way. With inside jokes just begging to be quoted, wit and wisdom woven flawlessly together and moments of poignancy to ground each punchline, this memorable outing rightly deserves its place as one of sitcom's most cherished classics. A perfect reminder of joy found in togetherness, this episode scores 10/10.
