Hurricane Kim rolls in
Mr-Fusion18 October 2017
Here it is, that heavy episode that sets out to humanize the show's raving B. And it's a success, even if you have to work for it. It's actually pretty dark; Kim buddying up to Lindsay throws's Sam's life and the Weir house into chaos. It's a bad day for everyone. But between Bill's presence, and Nick & his damn fruit rollups, there are (blessed) moments of levity; and Kim's broken-home nightmare gives a hard look into here messed-up personal life. And give Busy Phillips credit here, she goes all-out with the character's baggage.

Eventually, the hysterics pay off and all you're left with by end credits is a warm smile. Hard-won indeed.

Kim Kelly Is My Friend (#1.4)

Warning: Spoilers
Sam is being bullied by Kim's friend. Kim invites Lindsey over to meet her family but it doesn't go too well. So they go back to the Weirs. And Lindsey's parents end up meeting everybody.

A very good episode. Here we get to know a lot about characters, mainly Kim. It is easier to like her now and I like the way the relationship of Kim and Lindsey went on. It had many great scenes. I actually loved the one of Kim getting into Sam's room.

And wow it was Rashida Jones as Karen! I never seen her as such a character.

Great and underrated

This was once again, a lovely episode rich of character development, friendship and hilarious dialog.

There were some of the funniest scenes of the show in this particular episode. One that cracks me up badly is when Sam burps during dinner and Harold naturally thinks that he's gonna blow up.

Sam's storyline in this episode was a little frustrating, I honestly never liked Sam much and didn't feel bad for him getting bullied by Karen.

Lindsay's bonding with Kim was far more interesting in my opinion. She got to meet her crazy family and see her get really p!ssed off after finding Karen sucking on Daniel's thumb. Once again, a hilarious scene with a nice and dry closing line 'She's p!ssed'.

Dinner at the Weir's place was awkward, especially once Kim and Daniel made up and end up making out in the kitchen. I loved their make up scene, she slapped him pretty hard in the face.

FOUR stars for this great and underrated episode.

One of the best episodes of the series!

Up to this point, I think it's safe to say a lot of people did not like the character of Kim including myself. However, after watching this episode, I started to like her a whole lot more. Why is that exactly? Well, we learn more about why Kim is the way she is. We meet her mother and stepfather, learn about what happened to her brother, and find out more details about her on again, off again relationship with Daniel. Kim's life is a mess.

I think the episode is a fascinating commentary on the different socioeconomic statuses in this country. Something that will always be relevant no matter what generation we are in. There will always be the upper class, middle class, and lower class. It's sad, but true. A lot of people are forced to play with the hand their dealt. Kim did not ask to be put in this situation. To be raised in this dysfunctional household, but she has to get up and go to school just like everyone else. She has a lot more she has to worry about compared to the average student, which makes us empathize with her so much more and feel for her, because we are forced to think how messed up her life actually it is. Of course she would act the way she does!

That's one of the reasons why I like the character of Lindsay in this show. She is able to emphasize with other people and has a strong sense of justice and pride. I think those are amazing qualities to have as a human being, and even though her parents may think she is making a wrong decision by befriending Kim (and maybe she is), I still love that she is willing to support her and stand by her side despite how dysfunctional and rude she can be.
